About GREEN LINE DESIGN

Green Line Design Company is a freelance graphic design company and screen printer located in Des Moines, Iowa. In July of 2019, I left my product and apparel design job to pursue printmaking and freelance work full-time. While focusing mostly on logo design, event posters, t-shirts, and signage displays, I will also be producing artwork focusing on travel, food, and leisure activities in the form of prints, t-shirts, stickers, postcards, and more.

For freelance design questions and inquiries, email me at info@greenlinedesignco.com. I look forward to working with you and showing you what I can do!

FREQUENLTY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who are you?

My name is Jacob Rempfer. I live in Des Moines with my wife, Laura, and my dog, Django. I’ve lived in 5 different states and traveled to 34 out of 50. I’ve been to 6 six different countries. Additionally, I love craft beer, cooking, Wes Anderson movies, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

What types of work do you do?

Everything I sell in my shop is designed by me! As for freelance work, I primarily focus on graphic design and illustration. If you need a logo, a t-shirt design, a poster design, an event invitation, a sticker, the list goes on— I can create the art. I can do poster screen printing in-house; other printing needs are farmed out to other businesses (local, if possible) better equipped to complete the job. Every job is unique, so let me know what you are looking for and I will help you find a way to get it done!

How did you get into this line of work?

From a young age, I was always interested in art. I was constantly drawing, sketching, and coloring, but I when it came time do decide what I wanted to do, I never considered it as an option. I spent the better part of a decade taking college courses, working odd jobs, and moving around. Finally, I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Communication Studies. After a few years in the insurance and culinary industries, I decided it was time to pursue art. I enrolled in the Graphic Design program at DMACC. After completion, I worked as a graphic designer and product designer at TC&B Corporate Wearables and Authentic Brand in Perry, IA. It was a great experience, I was able to design shirts, hats, and apparel for a catalog. Seeing my work on display and people wearing things that I designed was, for lack of a better word, really cool! After a few years there, I decided I wanted to keep going on this path but be able to design and create art that was a more personal to me. I had so many ideas built up that I just needed to get out and Green Line Design Co. was born.

What’s with the name?

I love Wes Anderson movies and the name of the bus line in The Royal Tenenbaums is the Green Line Bus. Green Line rhymes with design; it was just a good match.

How did you decide to make that?

Most of my ideas come from where I live, where I’ve been, what I like to eat, and things I like to do. I am also constantly consuming other forms of art, media, pop culture, etc. and filling notepads with ideas. I sketch almost everything in the Procreate app on my iPad and then from there I refine everything in Photoshop or Illustrator. Sometimes ideas don’t always work out and other times they do but end up looking much different. The thing that is the most fun about the creative process can also be the most frustrating, but when an idea comes together over time and you finally solve it, it is totally worth all of the steps it took to get there.

How much do you charge?

I charge a design fee for each job. This does not include the price of posters, shirts, stickers, etc. Each job is different and determined based on what is needed. Email me at info@greenlinedesignco.com and we can talk details and budget to see what might be the best option for you.

Can you get one shirt or poster printed for me?

Yes, it is possible, but it will cost you. Design fees will apply and there are often extra fees applied for printing in low quantities. If possible, printing is larger quantities will get you the best pricing when it comes to shirts and prints!
